How to Create a Domain, Subdomain, and Masked Domain - WSP

 Domains are entries in WebsitePanel that generate a DNS zone. You can add a domain into WebsitePanel without a website, but you cannot add a website that isn't connected to a domain.

• Create a Domain
• Create a Subdomain
• Create a Masked Domain

Create a Domain

To create a domain:

1. Log into your WebsitePanel Hosting Space.
2. Click Domains.

   

3. Click Add Domain.

   

4. Click Domain.

   

5. Provide the following:
   • Domain Name: Type your domain name in the text field provided.
   • Create Web Site: This checkbox creates an empty website for the domain name.
   • Assign to existing Web Site: This checkbox allows you to park a domain to an existing domain name using a dropdown menu.
   • Assign to existing Mail Domain: This checkbox allows you to forward all emails to an existing domain using a dropdown menu.
   • Enable DNS: This checkbox creates a DNS records for the domain.

     

6. Click Addon Domain.

Creating a Subdomain

To create a subdomain:

1. Log into your WebsitePanel Hosting Space.
2. Click Domains.

   

3. Click Add Domain.

   

4. Click Sub-domain.

   

5. Provide the following:
   • Type the subdomain in the field provided and choose the domain using the dropdown menu
   • Create Web Site: This checkbox creates an empty website for the subdomain
   • Enable DNS:  This checkbox creates a DNS record for the subdomain

     

6. Click Addon Domain.

Creating a Masked Domain

Masking domains hides the original domain while displaying a different domain name with the same website content.

To create a masked domain:

1. Log into your WebsitePanel Hosting Space.
2. Click Domains.

   

3. Click Add Domain.

   

4. Click Domain.

   

5. Type the domain you want to park in the field provided.
6. Select the checkbox for Assign to existing Web Site.
7. Use the dropdown menu to select the domain you want to display when the customer types the website into their address bar.
    

   

8. Click Add Domain.
